Communicating scientific research results is an essential part of academic work. In science communication, researchers are faced with the challenge of communicating their research activities, results and the resulting implications in a way that is appropriate for the target group, which can be either their peers or the general public.
Important questions in this context could be: Why is my research relevant? Who might benefit from my research findings? How can I reach my target group? What should I be aware of when addressing a non-academic public?
In our interdisciplinary project, we are developing a framework that will both improve science communication and support researchers in their communicative work. This framework will include diverse perspectives, including chemistry, education, communication sciences, and physics. In order to achieve this, we use selected, target group-oriented formats to analyse the conditions under which the communication intentions and effects of scientific messages can diverge. The basis of these analyses is our own experience as well as the experience of people actively communicating in science and the public.
The aim of this project is to identify evidence-based, target group-related strategies for successful and, above all, efficient science communication. This should enable scientists to make informed decisions about communication strategies and media in the future.
